:: Mission

dcPinoy aims to provide a central location where Pinoys in the DC area can reach other Filipinos, promote awareness, build comaradarie, promote charitable causes, increase political and demographic visibility, help increase Pinoy commerce, and help further strengthen an already strong and close-knit community.

dcPinoy is an attempt by an individual to help the community.  Hence, it is independently operated and does not fall under the purview or control of any Pinoy organization.

What makes our site different?
dcPinoy.com is a FREE public service to the Filipino-American community of the Washington DC area including Northern Virginia, Maryland, and Washington DC proper.

It does not try to be the mother of all Filipino websites to include the U.S, the Philippines, and all around the globe.  We have a much narrower and very focused view.  We only want to serve the community we are a part of:  the Washington DC area.  Hence, we've created this site specifically to serve the Filipinos who work, live, and play here in the Washington DC metro area which includes Northern Virginia, Maryland, and Washington DC.

So, now much like the other ethnic communities in our area, we have a tool we can use to help promote community awareness, bridge generations and organizations, promote fellowship, increase Pinoy commerce, and provide effective and efficient communications to help build an even stronger community.

So, feel free to use our site to your benefit.  It's here to help you.

What does dcPinoy want from you?
Nothing.  Absolutely nothing. Just help other Filipinos in our area by telling them about our site.  By helping them, you are helping the whole community.

Why a Pinoy Business Directory?
Having been a resident of the DC area for over 15 years now, I've always wondered why there isn't a Pinoy Business directory.  I believe there was once a yellow pages of sorts although but it was geared more for the national audience versus just the Filipinos that work and live here in the DC area!

At any rate, I think we at some point in time have asked ourselves if there is a Filipino-owned business that does this kind of work, provides this kind of service, or sells this kind of item?  And with some frustration we have always been resigned to the thought that there just isn't one in existence and simply turn to friends, neighbors, news ads, or yellow pages for whatever we need.

So, here we are in 2003 nearing 2004 and still not a Wash DC Filipino Directory.  Well, as the saying goes ... necessity is the mother of invention.  Hence, the birth of dcPinoy.

We invite all business owners to list their businesses here FREE of charge to promote their business.  Getting listed gives them visibility to local Filipinos to find, reach, and patronize them.   Getting listed will avail themselves to a captive audience of loyal and supportive customers from the Filipino community.

We hope that the Pinoy Business Directory will not only meet the need for customers looking specifically for Pinoy-owned businesses but also help increase local Pinoy commerce, point of sale or even business to business. We urge every Pinoy business and all Pinoy customers to take advantage of this free service.

>> Special Section - Pinoy Club/Organization Directory
With the same reasoning for creating the Business Directory, we've created a special section in the directory (Local Pinoy Organizations) for folks to register their clubs, associations, or organizations.  So whether it be a professional, social, or non-profit/charitable organization, feel free to list your group to give yourselves visibility so that others may find and join you.

Why a Discussion Forum?
Many of us engage in entertaining, challenging, and even insightful discussions via email.  For the most part, this mode is efficient and effective and does what it is supposed to do and that is to deliver the message to those on the recipient list.

For topics however that might be better suited for review and consumption by a wider audience outside of an email list or listserve, a discussion forum is probably a more fitting venue if not a complement to it.  In such as venue, a much wider variety of topics can be covered and grouped accordingly.  Folks can submit their thoughts, ideas, or questions for other's consideration.  Others can then pick and choose the items they want to read and respond to immediately or later at their convenience.  And if you don't have access to your home email, you can use our forum to communicate with other since it has the ability to send email or private messages to other members.

We have a number of forums for a variety of topics.  I invite you, your family, friends, and colleagues to take part in our forum.  Go check it out and use it to your advantage.

Why a Community Calendar?
An online calendar is provided to inform and disseminate information on a real time basis.   Everyone is welcome to post their community oriented announcements, meetings, gatherings, or any other special events.   To learn more, please click here.

More features to come ....
We plan on adding more to our site in our sincere hope to not only make your visit experience better but also help the Filipino community in some way ... we hope.

Thanks and enjoy.
